At-Home Family Photography in Sydney’s Suburbs | Liz, Lewis + Leon
There’s something pretty special about photographing a family over the years. Getting to watch little personalities emerge, family dynamics shift, and children grow into their own little people is one of the things I love most about what I do.
I’ve had the privilege of photographing Liz, Lewis and Leon for the past eight years, documenting different chapters of their family story along the way. But this time, we did something a little different. For the first time, we brought their family session home.
And honestly, there’s something so warm, intimate and nostalgic about photographing a family in their own space.
The beauty of photographing your family at home
Your home is more than just the place you live. It’s where the everyday moments unfold. The morning cuddles, the familiar corners, the favourite spots to sit, the little routines that might feel ordinary now but become the things you look back on with the most affection.
For this session, we spent time at home and exploring the neighbourhood, allowing the boys to relax, be themselves and simply enjoy the experience.
Without the pressure of posing or needing everyone to look at the camera, we could let things happen naturally. The in-between moments, the little interactions and the connections that make this family uniquely theirs.
These are the moments I’m always drawn to. The ones that might seem insignificant in the moment, but years from now will bring you straight back to this particular season of life.
Documenting the days you’re living right now
As a family photographer, I think there’s something beautiful about returning to the same families over the years. Each session becomes another little piece of their story, a way of remembering not just what everyone looked like, but who they were at that point in time.
The boys are growing, their personalities are evolving, and the way they interact with each other and their parents naturally changes along the way.
Photographing them at home felt like such a lovely way to capture this chapter. A little less about creating a perfect portrait, and a little more about documenting the life they’re living right now.
Because one day, these photographs won't just be pictures of the people you love. They'll be reminders of the home you lived in, the neighbourhood you wandered around, the way your children fitted into your arms, and all those little details you never realised you'd miss.
Is an at-home family photography session right for you?
If the idea of a relaxed, natural family session appeals to you, photographing your family at home is a beautiful place to start.
We can wander through your home, head outside into your garden or explore your local neighbourhood. There’s no need for a perfectly styled house or for everyone to be on their best behaviour. I want you to feel comfortable, have fun and enjoy the time together.
My approach to family photography is all about capturing genuine connection, personality and those beautifully ordinary moments that make up your family life.
Whether your children are tiny or growing far too quickly, this season of life is worth remembering.
And sometimes, the most meaningful place to tell that story is right where it all happens.
