Podcast + Media Personal Branding Photography with John Dickson
I recently photographed Christian podcaster, author and speaker John Dickson for a new collection of personal branding images — designed to give him a fresh bank of photographs to use across his podcast, media appearances, website, social media and promotional work.
For people who are regularly appearing on podcasts, speaking, being interviewed or sharing their ideas publicly, having a good collection of images to draw from is incredibly useful. You don't always need another traditional headshot — you need photographs that can work across lots of different platforms and feel like a genuine reflection of you.
For this shoot, we created a mix of relaxed portraits, more considered editorial images and photographs with a little more context and personality.
I love this kind of personal branding photography because it sits somewhere between portraiture and editorial photography. The images need to feel professional, but they don't need to feel overly corporate or staged.
Whether you're a podcaster, author, speaker, journalist, creative or business owner, your photographs are often the first introduction someone has to you online. Having a collection of strong, natural images means you're ready when a podcast producer needs a headshot, a publication requests a photograph, you're promoting an upcoming event or you simply need something new for Instagram.
John's shoot was a great example of creating a versatile collection of images that can be used well beyond a single profile photograph.

We had a fantastic experience working with Martine for a rebranding shoot for our media company. Martine brings a great, calming energy that puts her subject at ease, and gently guides the shoot in a way that doesn't feel forced or performative. And most importantly, the photos are excellent. I would absolutely recommend Martine!
